Snow, mother, then politics

posted Friday, 18 January 2008

I spent most of yesterday in the hospital with my mother.  They finally released her about 10 PM and then she stayed the night with us so I could take her to her doctor today.  She is ok and seems to be on the mend but I will be adding her grocery shopping to the list of things I am doing for her.  Tomorrow it is supposed to snow.  Snow in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is rare (only two significant snows in the 18 years down here.)  The threat of snow in the South is Amazing because every grocery store has a run on the store so that Southerners buy at least 3 weeks worth of groceries for a snow that rare lasts 24 hours.  Between my mother and the weather politics seems far away and less compelling.

I hope your mother gets better.

I definitely know the feeling on politics seeming farther away when things are more stressful then normal. We just had a snow storm, the city has done a terrible job taking care of the streets so it's been interesting to drive. Plus, the brakes on the car went bad and now it's 20 below zero and supposed to stay that way until Monday.

Anyway, I hope you have some good days to balance out the difficult ones.
