I agree. Energy independence is important. I heard about a car they've
made in Australia and France that runs on compressed air. It can only go
up to 60mph and every 140 miles it has to be refilled. But compressed air
is cheap. Anyway, I think that getting a car like that into our major
cities would be a big push for energy independence. These hybrid and
electric cars are not as good because their batteries wear out after 6 or 8
years and the cost of a new battery is about the cost of a new car. As for
ethanol, I don't think there's enough land in the U.S. for us to grow the
corn required for us to subsist solely on that. It's clear to me that we
need better alternatives and we need to drill more of the oil on our own
land or on our continental shelf.
