McCain or Huckabee

posted Friday, 7 December 2007
I am down to two favorite candidates.  Both McCain and Huckabee have the right stuff.  Both have some flaws.  I am trying to decide if Huckabee being for creation studies is a big enough problem to stop me from supporting him.  I think McCain has the right stuff but I am not sure he can win at his age.

If McCain's age is an issue, how about McCain/Huckabee ticket?

Really, I think we need someone who can hit the ground running with the war in Iraq and foreign policy. Much as I like Huckabee, he's going to take some time that our nation can't afford to get familiar with what's going on.

Also look at McCain's mother at 95 going strong, taking a trip around the world once a year, and driving a car in France! The man has good genes. He's got more energy at 72 than most people at 42 (and more than me at 33)!

I don't see what creationism has to do with the Presidential contest. I do think that McCain would be much better than Huckabee, who seems very much a nanny-stater. I don't know precisely what he's done that qualifies him to be President; for my money, McCain has the integrity needed in this dangerous world. Even when I disagree with him (which is not infrequently), I admire McCain's willingness to stand on principle. And as President Bush has shown with both the Iraq war and the Supreme Court, the ability to stand on principle is a very necessary political tool at this time.

Question:

How do we stop the problems of preemptive wars for oil, dismantling of the Constitution, redistribution of wealth by taking from the poor and giving to the rich if we replace one Republican Disaster Capitalist with another?

The author of this blog and his Readers should contact the undersigned to join the PRC (Poor Republicans' Club). If you are not Rich, which I feel confident you are not, then what possible incentives besides racism, stupidity and utter ignorance could induce you to support your enemies? The only asset you possess, which could be of interest to the Republican leadership is your vote and your ignorance. Once the elections are over, you are of no use to anyone, particularly the Republican Party.

Friend tabacco, I am not a racist and though definitions differ I wouldn't consider myself ignorant. I have thought carefully about the elections and come to the considered opinion that McCain is th ebest man for the job. Others may disagree, but I certainly wouldn't call them ignorant for disagreeing with me. I think that the war is not about oil, and I think that a very good case can be made for preemptive invasion. You really ought to stop your name-calling. All the folk who comment here seem intelligent. Try reasoning with them instead of treating them like children, and they'll be much more willing to hear what you have to say.

Friend Stephen:

Are you aware that John McCain was one of 28 Republican Senators, who voted FOR the Allerton Amendment, which would have eliminated the Minimum Wage altogether? Fortunately 28 votes is insufficient to pass such anathema. Most Arizonans don't even know about the vote. You already know he supports Bush's Wars. Where you deduced McCain's "integrity"? from, I swear I do not know. Please explain how substance is trumped by IMAGE!

McCain is NOT STANDING ON PRINCIPLE, HE STANDS ON GREED & AMBITION! McCain wants to fill his pockets with our taxes the way Bush is doing now. WHY IS MCCAIN THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB? You give assertions and 2 extremely questionable qualifications. I hope you have more ammunition than your "opinion"?

Bush has gone to war in Iraq to steal their oil and pour our tax $$$$ into the coffers of Halliburton & Blackwater, much of which ends up in Bush bank accounts. As to packing the Supreme Court with Neocon bigots, who think they can overturn the Constitution, Bush put them there because they will support his Torture, Abu Ghraib & Guantanamo, his violations of our laws and removal of our rights. I don't know where you get your ideas from - that was disingenuous on my part: of course I know where you get them from. I have heard them before on Fox.

Ignorance is NOT a Crime, but a PITY! It ensues when one limits oneself to Neocon sources. That's why I occasionally go to Conservative sources to see if there is anything there of value. I am almost always disappointed.

I did NOT call you a Racist. Where did you get that from? I leave that to you and God. However ALL RACISTS ARE NEOCON REPUBLICANS TODAY. Being a logical person, I realize that does NOT prove that All Republicans are Racist. I am not that "Ignorant". I studied Logic & Syllogisms as well as mathematics.

People are not Ignorant BECAUSE they disagree, they are Ignorant because they either a) cannot intelligently justify their positions and/or b) justify their positions with false propaganda. I welcome contrarian positions. How could I possibly know that I am Correct without them. That's why George W. Bush is so Ignorant; he has only "Yes Men" near him. Those, who disagree, are dismissed (all Republicans).

Your inclinations are valid and your ideas honest. But your information is filtered and disingenuous.

You say, "I think that the war is not about oil, and I think that a very good case can be made for preemptive invasion." You neither explain why you minimize oil and you certainly have made no CASE for preemptive invasion. I want to hear your CASE; I really do. Without presenting rationale, you merely make assertions. I try never to do that. Assertions without rationale are worthless.

The "Name-Calling" is a pragmatic thing I picked up from George W. Bush and other Republicans. It seems to work. It suppresses dissent, but it also influences people-sponges. If you insist, I will explain that term, but I think you can probably figure it out for yourself. I am trying to be polite here! (Smile)

"All the folk who comment here seem intelligent." - Question: If I Comment repeatedly to DUMB PEOPLE, what sort of IDIOT WOULD I BE!

Intelligence is NOT THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE IS INFORMATION. The most brilliant genius will sound dumb if he or she has BAD INFORMATION.

As to your "reasoning" comment, I could not agree more. The problem is that once INTELLIGENT people make up their minds, getting them to change their minds is 99% impossible. But if there is a chance, first you must get their attention. Bush doesn't reason, he insults and offends; that tact got him elected president twice (if you ignore Ohio and Florida). Gore & Kerry were politically correct and "polite" - there's that word again! And they lost! The meek are not inheriting the earth, the big-mouthed demagogues hold that honor and in fact always have. Sorry, but the Bible is OFTEN WRONG! It says, "Turn the other cheek" in New Testament, and "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth" in the Old Testament. You tell me how anyone can follow both directives simultaneously! Once you realize that, you can no longer spout Biblical aphorisms without thought.

Now that I have everyone's attention, let's argue our positions with our own intellect, supported by reason and leave the propaganda and mind-manipulation to the Talking Heads on TV and elsewhere.

I hope to continue our dialogue sporadically. NOBODY HERE THINKS YOU ARE NOT WORTH THE EFFORT. AU CONTRAIRE! I consider you extremely worthwhile. When I find IDIOCY, I bail out quickly: Sheepdog & Moonbat Monitor come to mind instantly. Though I'm not sure either exists today. One can only hope!

Now you know that insults are my trickery to get people to reveal themselves. It may not work on this blog anymore, but I give that information out willingly. More importantly, I NEVER ARGUE WITH IDIOTS FOR LONG - that would make me one too!

Regards & Respect, Tabacco
