The Democrats do their caucuses differently from the Republicans. From
what I understand they have to declare who they voted for rather than
having secret ballots. Dems get into groups supporting each candidate and
if they do not have a certain percentage of the people in the room then
they don't get to vote for their candidate of choice. Groups for other
candidates then get to win the disenfranchised people over to their group.
With the Republicans we just counted all the votes. The chairperson in my
caucus said afterward that she chaired a Democrat caucus 4 years ago and
fights broke out. She was terrified to chair our GOP caucus and quite
surprised by how the GOP did things differently. We did have some minor
debating during the party platform discussion time, but it was all very
polite.
