Have businesses in America betrayed the trust of the American people?  I am a conservative but I no longer see business in America as being pro-American.  Whether it is outsourcing, excessive executive pay, or the loss of manufacturing in America I no longer believe that the great bulk of businesses in America think like they are part of America.  We need to rethink what we do for our businesses since they no longer deserve our support.  This situation makes me sad because I always want business to succeed but not at the cost of our country.  I hate that I sound like Lou Dobbs but this is really important.

I know what you mean, but a lot of big businesses are still hampered by the fact that American workers demand high salaries and huge benefits. When you consider the average American college student's work ethic, it's kind of a miracle that it hasn't all gone overseas already.

I'm not saying it's good, but Americans are very expensive and demanding people to employ.

I think another problem might be taxes. If we cleaned up our tax system we could make it better for businesses to stay in the U.S.

I see what you mean, Esther. I heard Pat Buchanan making a case for reforming the tax code to help keep industry here in the U.S. when he was on C-SPAN's Washington Journal this morning (19 Dec.). What do you think, politicalman? I am very leery of Buchanan, but you do seem to make somewhat similar points about American business.
